In both July and August, Marco Island City Council candidates Tamara Goehler and Stephen Gray rose before dawn and boarded a boat to accompany the laboratory that does the city's monthly water testing. They were learning about the locations that are tested as well as the testing process in general.
Marco Island's water quality testing program plays a crucial role in determining the impact of various influences on the health of our waterways, both in the canals and in the Gulf of Mexico. Regular monitoring is conducted to assess the levels of key nutrients, including nitrogen and phosphorus, which are critical indicators of water quality. Excessive amounts of these nutrients can lead to harmful algal blooms and degraded water conditions.
